Donor

In the SBFS project, Norad is the donor and strategic enabler. It funds the entire four-year programme and provides oversight to ensure the project achieves results that align with both Kenyan priorities and Norway’s OfD goals. Norad also ensures coordination between Kenyan and Norwegian institutions and other international partners, helping avoid overlap and maximise synergies with related donor initiatives.
For the Blue Carbon Hub Kenya, Norad’s role is foundational. By financing the establishment of the Hub and supporting training and communication activities, it helps create a lasting centre that will outlive the SBFS programme itself. Norad’s global commitment to climate action, biodiversity conservation, and food security ensures that the Hub fits into broader strategies for sustainable development. Its support highlights Norway’s ambition to be a leader in promoting a fair and sustainable ocean economy
About Norad – The Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation
The Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (Norad) is Norway’s main body for managing development assistance. Founded in 1968, Norad supports programmes that reduce poverty, protect the environment, and promote human rights and sustainable economic growth. In recent years, it has prioritised the ocean as a key development frontier, launching the Ocean for Development (OfD) Programme in 2019. This programme aims to share Norway’s experience in fisheries, aquaculture, and marine planning with partner countries that are building their own blue economies.
