Collaborating Partner – Norway

In SBFS, NIVA provides expertise in marine spatial planning, environmental monitoring, and cumulative impact analysis. Its scientists work with KMFRI to conduct environmental audits and technical studies in the Shimoni–Vanga area, ensuring that blue food and blue carbon investments remain within ecological limits. NIVA also contributes to capacity building by training Kenyan scientists and managers on environmental modelling, data integration, and assessment methods that underpin sound decision-making.
NIVA’s contribution to the Blue Carbon Hub Kenya is particularly important. By developing frameworks for assessing ecosystem pressures and resilience, it ensures that the Hub is not only a training space but also a knowledge platform for environmental integrity. NIVA’s experience in turning scientific assessments into actionable policy advice supports Kenya’s ambition to scale blue carbon governance and integrate it into its sustainable ocean planning. Its international reputation lends credibility to the Hub as a centre of excellence that connects local action with global science .
